Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 11. Seguin led the league in scoring with three goals and four assists for seven points with a plus-minus rating of plus-2 in three games played.
Seguin’s week was highlighted by a five-point game on Saturday, the first of his OHL career, scoring three goals and two assists as first star of a 9-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves. The three-goal performance against the Wolves marks his third hat-trick of the season. Earlier in the week, Seguin had two assists in the 5-2 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Wednesday night, but was held scoreless Friday night in the 2-1 loss to the London Knights, ending an eight-game scoring streak to start the 2009-10 campaign.
Seguin, a 17-year-old from Brampton, ON, is in his second OHL season with the Whalers. A runner-up for the Emms Family Award as OHL Rookie of the Year last season, Seguin currently leads the league in scoring with a league-high 14 goals with 11 assists for 25 points in 10 games. He is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Honourable mention this week goes to Alexander Burmistrov of the Barrie Colts who scored four goals and two assists for six points in two games. Josh Shalla was also considered from the Saginaw Spirit following a four-point game Saturday with a hat-trick and an assist as first star of an 8-3 win over the Belleville Bulls to cap off a five-point week. In goal, Jason Missiaen of the Peterborough Petes posted a goals-against-average of 1.50 with a save percentage of .961 with one win in two games.
