OHL Officials Hustle For A Cure

February 6, 2009 []

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that all officials will be wearing a decal on their helmets beginning in games this evening Friday February 6, through all games on Sunday February 8, 2009 to show their support for the fight against blood cancers.

The OHL joins other leagues including the NHL, AHL, OHA, and GTHL to help support “Hustle For A Cure – The John D’Amico Fund”.  The decals on the helmets will help to create much needed awareness toward the cancers that have affected NHLers such as Jason Blake, Saku Koivu, Mario Lemieux, and John D’Amico.  In August of 2007, Hustle For A Cure was created in memory of honoured Hockey Hall of Fame member, John D’Amico.

On Sunday February 8, 2009, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Hustle For A Cure will also be holding its 2nd annual Skate-A-Thon for the fight against blood cancers in support of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  The skate will take place at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.  The skate is in partnership with the OHL’s Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors who will host the Saginaw Spirit at 2:00pm on Sunday following the Skate-A-Thon.
