Game 10:  8:45 pm Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs 3 vs. Toronto Nationals 1

The Toronto Young Nats missed an opportunity to jump ahead of the pack in the standings this evening looking for their second win of the day facing the Chiefs despite taking the early lead on a goal by Justin Nice.  Elgin-Middlesex spoiled their chances with soid goaltending and a come-from-behind victory sparked by a last second goal by Boone Jenner to end the first period.  The Chiefs' Jonathan Sims scored a shorthanded marker in the second and Bryan McCauley netted a power play insurance goal early in the third.  The Nats battled hard and came close to scoring several times in a late third period power play rattling the puck off the iron.

Game 9:  8:15 pm  GNML Wolves 2 vs. Toronto Marlboros 2

The Wolves stormed back with two goals in the final minute of play with the tying goal finding the mesh with less than a second left in regulation time.  The Marlies, playing in their second game of the day, jumped out the gates strong when Evan Rodrigues scored in the first minute against a Wolves team that is still getting to know eachother.  "Our passes were off early on since we only had one practice together as a group before this game but we connected really well after the first period" said Patrick Watling of the Wolves who scored the tying goal.  "It is definitely one of the biggest goals I have scored this season, the forwards did a great job screening the goalie.  We didn't know what to expect coming into this game but we displayed our talents and how we can compete with the top teams" added an excited Watling.

Game 8:  Toronto Jr. Canadiens 5 vs. Brantford 99'ers 1

The trio of David Brace, Robert Polesello, and David Friedmann conected for two quick goals in one first period shift demonstrating incredible puck movement that quickly set the tone against MHAO opponents the Brantford 99'ers.  The Jr. Canadiens, in their second game of the day, found the offence they were lacking this morning with six different players contributing two-point games including Braden Kavaratzis, Alan Quine, and Tyler Biggs.  Brantford managed to save face and ruin the shutout bid put forward by Jordan McLean when Andrew Fritsch cracked the goose-egg in the final minute of regulation.

Game 7:  6:30 pm  London Jr. Knights 1 vs. Barrie Colts 1

The goaltenders put on a show in this overtime battle that ended in a tie game evern after the four-on-four extra frame.  The two goals came in quick succession in the second period by Scott Lombardi for the Knights with Ferdinando Colella responding less than two minutes later for the Colts.  "This is the best hockey the boys have been playing all season" said Colts Head Coach Josh Dahmer.  "All three lines are contributing and playing like a team, the guys are playing their hearts out and working for each other" added Dahmer.  "We are fortunate to always get great goaltending from both of our guys."  John Chartrand saw the most rubber between the pipes for the Colts, especially in overtime, but Jacob Riley responded for the Knights with clutch saves down the stretch.

Game 6:  5:15 pm  Mississauga Reps 0 vs. Quinte Red Devils 3

Tyson Teichmann shut the door all game and the Red Devils offence did their job putting pucks on goal and consistently creating chances against the Reps.  The Devils, still riding a high from last weekend and their thrilling overtime win to capture the OMHA's, got their offence from Nick Cousins, who set up the opening goal by Scott Boultbee which stood as the game-winner.  Cousins also supplied an insurance marker in the second period.  The hot-and-cold Reps, GTHL Finalists, had their chances but the Devils played disciplined hockey and special teams were not a factor.

The Vaughan Kings opened the tournament in the win column squeeking past the Burlington Eagles on the strength of the play by Phillip DiGiuseppe who set up both goals including the first goal midway through the first period when Phillip Marinaccio found the back of the net.  With a Liam Board goal for the Eagles in the second period the teams were tied after two.  The Kings scored early in the third on a goal by Ralphie Cudderni but the rest of the game was tight-checking and stayed close.  Eagles goaltender Alex Murray stopped a penalty shot late in the third period but the Eagles could not build on that momentum and suffered their first loss of the tournament.

Game 4:  3:30 pm  Thunder Bay Kings 1 vs. Mississauga Senators 5

Mathew Campagna opened the scoring near the end of the first period with a shorthanded marker which jump started the Senators offence and they never looked back.  Despite finding themselves shorthanded often throughout the first two periods, Mississauga controlled the play most of the game.  Thunder Bay was able to muster some chances in the second period until two quick goals in one shift by Campagna and Adam Nanji, on a fancy breakaway deke, put things out of reach.  The Kings managed to ink the scoresheet late in the third period on a goal by defenceman Tyler Anton.

Game 2:  1:45 pm  Toronto Marlboros 3 vs. St. Catharines Falcons 2

The St. Catharines Falcons came flying out the gates to open their 2009 OHL Cup schedule against the top-ranked Toronto Marlies.  The Falcons found the twine first when Jeff May scored late in the first period beating Marlies netminder Malcolm Subban.  It took some time for the Marlies offence to find it's rhythm before exploding for three unanswered goals in the second period.  Marlies Player of the Game Zach Mitchell assisted on goals by Evan Rodrigues and Andrew Santino.  "We played well early on and it was great when our hard work helped us pop that first goal" said Mitchell.  "We had a good game plan coming in but they are a good team and it was nice to get the first win" added Mitchell.  Aaron Taylor made things interesting when he scored late in the third period for the Falcons to bring them within one but the offence couldn't put together any final second chances and the Marlies held onto the win.

Game 1:  1:15 pm  York Simcoe Express 3 vs. Toronto Jr. Canadiens 1

Alan Quine of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens scored the first goal of the 2009 OHL Cup in the first three minutes of the first period but that would be the only offence his team would produce.  York Simcoe's Daniel Catanacci tied the game midway through the first period when he broke through a pair of defenders and went top shelf to put the Express on the board with their first goal of the tournament.  Catanacci would score the game-winner on the power play just seconds into the third period before Ryan Murphy would net the insurance marker on the power play to seal the win for York Simcoe.
