Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that John Shannon has entered into a three-year agreement as league Broadcast Consultant. Shannon is currently a member of the Rogers Sportsnet Hockeycentral panel, and former executive vice-president of programming and production for the NHL.
“The Ontario Hockey League is very excited to welcome John Shannon to our team as the league’s Broadcast Consultant” said OHL Commissioner David Branch. “He brings to the league a wealth of knowledge and expertise as a proven industry leader who will certainly enhance the television broadcast experience for our fans.”
Effective immediately, Shannon will work closely with the league and its broadcast partners in the presentation of the league’s television broadcasts.
"The players and coaches of this league have always been passionate about the sport and attaining their goals” said new OHL Broadcast Consultant John Shannon. “Our goal is to create great television, and give the OHL's broadcast partners a great platform to tell the stories of those players and coaches.”
The 2009-10 OHL regular season broadcast schedule is the most extensive in league history with 560 games appearing on broadcast partners including Rogers TV, TV Cogeco, Eastlink, and Shaw TV. More than 80% of all regular season games are available to fans on the OHL Action Pak.
Shannon, who was recently added to the Hockeycentral panel on Rogers Sportsnet, has spent more than 30 years overseeing the television production of more than 1600 regional and national NHL hockey games, including the production of 23 Stanley Cup Finals.
He has also served as vice-president, programming and executive producer of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, executive producer of Hockey Night in Canada on CBC, and was involved in the production of five Olympics, receiving an Emmy Award as part of NBC’s coverage of hockey at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games.
