IceDogs' Visentin Named CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 4.  In two starts Visentin stopped 97 of 101 shots faced with a goals-against-average of 2.01 and a save percentage of .960 with one victory.

On Thursday night Visentin and the IceDogs played host to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors where he turned aside 50 shots including 22 in the third period to earn the 4-2 win as second star of the game.  On Saturday night the shots continued to find Visentin who managed 47 saves in putting together another second star effort despite the 2-1 loss to the Guelph Storm.

Visentin, a 17-year-old from Waterdown, ON, is in his second OHL season with the IceDogs and is eligible for the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  Through five games this season he has posted a 2-3-0-0 record with a 2.82 goals-against-average and a .930 save percentage.

Calvin Pickard of the Seattle Thunderbirds and Jake Allen of the Montreal Juniors were also nominated for the award this week.  Pickard was outstanding Friday night making 57 saves to earn the 1-0 shutout win as first star of the game over the Tri-City Americans, while Allen posted a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .936 save percentage in two wins including one shutout victory.
