Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today completed the 2009 Priority Selection with 300 players selected over 15 rounds.
The 300 selected players include 169 forwards, 94 defencemen, and 37 goaltenders. 86 players were drafted from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, with 74 from the Greater Toronto Hockey League. 54 players were taken from the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario, and 54 were drafted from hockey programs in the United States. 19 players are from the Ottawa District Hockey Association, seven are from the Northern Ontario Hockey Association, with three from Hockey Northwestern Ontario, and three from various other programs in Canada.
The GTHL’s Toronto Marlboros, winners of the 2009 OHL Cup, led the way with 13 players selected in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. The OMHA’s York Simcoe Express had 11 players selected.
“I would like to congratulate the 300 young men that were drafted in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection” said OHL Director of Central Scouting and Player Development Rob Kitamura. “Every player should be proud of their accomplishments so far but understand that this is just the first of many opportunities that you must take advantage of. I want to also wish the best of luck to all of the players not selected today, and hope for them to keep in mind that continued hard work will bring future success.”
The 2009 OHL Priority Selection began at 9:00 am with a live draft show that featured the first overall selection Daniel Catenacci of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
