Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for October, 2012, which includes Justin Nichols of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Jacob Jammes of the London Knights, Connor Burgess of the Sudbury Wolves, and Jacob Blair of the Ottawa 67’s.


West Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the West Division is Justin Nichols of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.  Justin has excelled academically while taking a very difficult course offering at St. Mary’s College in Sault Ste. Marie.  Justin is a full time Grade 12 student enrolled in a University preparation program.  Justin is maintaining an average of 90% in the first semester while taking Advanced Functions, Business Management and Advances English at the Grade 12 University Level.  Justin, a 17-year-old goaltender from St Catharines, ON, has shown exceptional progress for a first year player with his new team and new school.

 

Midwest Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Midwest Division is Jacob Jammes of the London Knights.  Jacob, a 16-year-old native of Ottawa, ON, was a second round selection of the Knights in 2011 and is excelling with a very demanding course load including three academic University entrance courses.  Jacob has demonstrated a strong ability to reach his potential in the classroom as well as his commitment to playing in the Ontario Hockey League.

 

Central Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Central Division is Connor Burgess. Connor, a 16-year-old native of Sudbury was the wolves third round selection in the 2012 Priority Selection.  He attends Lasalle Secondary where he is described as an excellent student and currently maintains an average in the high 80’s while taking a full load of classes.

 

East Division: The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the East Division is Jacob Blair of the Ottawa 67’s.  Jacob is a 17-year-old first year goalie who attends his home school in Kanata, where he is seen as a quiet and respectful leader in the school.  While Jacob has been an Honour student throughout his high school years, it was his marks in the 90’s that earned him the Academic Player of the Month award.  Jacob is currently taking Advanced Functions, English, and a Sports Management as an elective.  He is on track to graduate from high school in June of this year.
