Spencer Martin of the Mississauga Steelheads etched his name in the record books at the 2013 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game Wednesday night in Halifax.
Martin made 16 saves and combined with Rimouski Oceanic netminder Philippe Desrosiers to record the first ever shutout victory in the 18-year history of this event, backstopping Team Orr to a 3-0 victory.
“It was awesome, I have a lot of good memories here,” Martin said after the 3-0 win over Team Cherry. “We kind of joked around all week about getting a combined shutout, I think the whole team helped out with this one and we owe a lot of credit to the forwards and the defence for coming back. This is an experience I will remember forever.”
Martin, a 17-year-old from Oakville, ON, is the fifth ranked goaltender by NHL Central Scouting for the 2013 NHL Draft which takes place this June in New Jersey. He is described as a competitive goalie with 'cat like' quickness who has excellent drive and determination.
A total of 16 OHL players competed in the annual showcase with eight divided amongst each team.
