Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the second time this season with a 2-0-0-0 record and a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .960 for the week ending February 19 while setting a new OHL record for shutouts in a season.
Visentin posted his OHL record tenth shutout of the season on Saturday with 21 saves in a 3-0 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The previous record of nine shutouts was held by Toronto’s Don Lockhart set back in the 1949-50 season. Visentin also made 27 saves on Friday night including 18 stops in the second period as part of a 5-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves earning third star honours.
Visentin, a 19-year-old from Waterdown, ON, is a Phoenix Coyotes prospect playing in his fourth OHL season. In 35 games this season he carries a record of 25-7-0-2 and has an OHL-best goals-against-average of 2.08 and one of the better save percentages in the league with a mark of .922.
Also considered for the award this week was former winner Roman Will of the Moncton Wildcats who went 1-1-0-0 with a goals-against-average of 1.01 and save percentage of .969. Mac Engel of the Spokane Chiefs posted a 1-2-0-0 record with one shutout and a goals-against-average of 1.69 and save percentage of .932.
