2012 Priority Selection First Round Recap

The first round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection presented by State Farm had a total of 22 players selected including five from the GTHL Champion Toronto Marlboros.

The five players included three in the top five led by Connor McDavid chosen first overall by the Erie Otters, defenceman Roland McKeown chosen second overall by the Kingston Frontenacs, and Joshua Ho-Sang chosen fifth overall by the Windsor Spitfires.  Other Marlies selected in the first round include Samuel Bennett chosen ninth overall by the Kingston Frontenacs, and Jeremiah Addison picked 12th by the Saginaw Spirit.

The 2012 Toronto Marlboros match the 2008 Toronto Jr. Canadiens as the last team to have five players selected in the first round.  That year the Jr. Canadiens captured an OHL Cup Championship with first round picks John McFarland (1), Ryan O’Connor (6), Tyler Toffoli (7), Devante Smith-Pelly (8), and Cody McNaughton (12).

The 2012 OHL Cup Champion Mississauga Rebels were not far behind this season with four players chosen in the first round, while the OMHA’s Southern Tier Admirals had two players picked along with Detroit Belle Tire.
