10 OHL Grads win Stanley Cup with LA Kings Dave Sandford

The Los Angeles Kings captured their first Stanley Cup in 45 years on Monday night with a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Game Six of the Finals.

A total of 15 CHL players were listed on the Kings playoff roster including 11 that played in the deciding game.

Kings captain and former Guelph Storm Dustin Brown opened the scoring on the power play and added two assists before becoming just the second American born captain to hoist the Stanley Cup following another OHL graduate Derian Hatcher who won the Cup with Dallas in 1999.

Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds graduate Jeff Carter scored twice on Monday including the game-winner, while Owen Sound Attack graduate Trevor Lewis also socred two goals.  Storm grad Drew Doughty added two assists, as did former Lethbridge Hurricane Dwight King, and former Kitchener Ranger Mike Richards.

Three Kings players have also won MasterCard Memorial Cup titles in addition to their Stanley Cup titles including Jarret Stoll with the Kootenay Ice in 2002, Richards with the Rangers in 2003, and Andrei Loktionov with the Windsor Spitfires in 2009.

In addition to the 15 former CHL players on the Kings roster, head coach Darryl Sutter played with the Lethbridge Broncos (1977-78,) assistant coach John Stevens played for the Oshawa Generals (1983-86), and goaltender coach Bill Ranford played with the New Westminster Bruins (1983-86).  Kings President Luc Robitaille played for the Hull Olympiques (1983-86), Vice-President Ron Hextall played with the Brandon Wheat Kings (1981-84), and Director of Amateur Scouting Mike Futa is a former OHL Executive of the Year and Owen Sound Attack General Manager.
