Day 3 action at the 2010 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament wrapped up with eight round-robin games complete. With just six more round-robin games to be played on Saturday, the playoff picture is determined in Division 1 and in Division 4. One spot remains up for grabs in Division 2 and in Division 3 which means that two of the four Quarter Final games have been determined.

After three days and four games, Mathew Campagna of the Toronto Young Nationals is in first place in tournament scoring with 11 points including four goals and seven assists.

Game 34: 2:45 pm Oakville Rangers 1 (1-3-0) vs. London Jr. Knights 2 (2-0-2)
The London Jr. Knights closed Day 3 action in style, securing first place in Division 4 with a 2-1 win over the Oakville Rangers. With just the one win, the Rangers fail to advance to the playoff round. The game was tied after one period of play with goals scored by Ryan Tuffin for the Knights at just the 1:58 mark of the opening period. The Rangers countered with a Matthew Gaetz goal at 10:35. Zach Avolio found himself the hero for the Knights scoring the game-winning goal late in the second period at 12:54. The Rangers did all they could to prolong their tournament battling hard until the final buzzer but could not solve the goaltending of Brendan O'Neill who earned his first win of the tournament. Kevin Entmaa played admirably throughout his four tournament games despite the final loss for the Rangers.

Game 33: 2:15 pm Toronto Marlboros 2 (3-1-0) vs. Elgin Middlesex Chiefs 1 (1-3-0)
In a rematch of last year's Championship game, the Toronto Marlboros solidified first place in Division 2 with an exciting 2-1 win over the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs. The Chiefs finished the round-robin with just one win failing to advance to the playoff round. The game was close from start to finish with a late Marlies goal to seal the win. The Marlies carried a 1-0 lead into the second period after Anthony Cortellessa scored his fifth goal of the tournament at 5:08 of the frame. The Chiefs put up a fight in the second period and chipped away before finally burying the tying goal from Ryan Rupert for his third of the tournament with the assist credited to his brother Matt and linemate Alex Morgan. The game appeared set to see extra time until a late tripping call against the Chiefs gave the Marlies the power play. Chris Marchese took full advantage of a broken play to roof a rebound into the net for the winner with just 48 seconds to play. Jake Paterson earned his third win in goal for the Marlies with the loss handed to the Chiefs' Craig Wood.

Game 32: 1:00 pm Whitby Wildcats 1 (1-2-0) vs Mississauga Rebels 3 (2-1-1)
The Mississauga Rebels put themselves into the playoff round and will represent Division 4 in the quarter-finals following a 3-1 win over the Whitby Wildcats who were dealt a major setback in their hunt for playoff contention. The teams skated to a scoreless first period when Taylor Gauld opened the scoring at 3:09 of the second period on the power play. Defenceman Patryk Wojenski carried the Rebels to a 2-1 second period lead when he blasted two power play goals at 12:31 and again with just two seconds to play in the period to boost the Rebels heading into the break. In the third period it was Sean Monahan who gave the Rebels some insurance with his goal at 7:14 of the third. The Wildcats continued to pressure down the stretch and had a penalty shot opportunity with 11 seconds remaining but AP goaltender Braydon Banitsiotis stoned Connor Armour to keep the two goal spread and earn the win in his first tournament start. Tyler Feaver played goal for the Wildcats in the loss.

Game 31: 12:30 pm Ottawa Valley Titans 2 (2-1-1) vs. Markham Waxers 2 (1-1-1)
The Ottawa Valley Titans and Markham Waxers skated to a 2-2 tie to further clog the Division 2 standings with each team still battling for playoff contention. The game was a true see-saw battle with the Titans unable to continue their overtime heroics in this their third overtime game of the tournament winning the previous two. The Titans did match the Waxers goal-for-goal with the teams trading goals in the first period. Brandon Pantaleo scored his second of the tournament on the power play at 3:25, matched by Dean Galasso at 10:19 with the man advantage. Mathew Dunlop put the Waxers ahead again at 7:19 of the second period only to have the lead spoiled by the Titans' Sam Schutt at 5:01 of the third. The Titans forced more shots as regulation came to an end with the teams trading chances in overtime but to no success. Riley McCrann, no stranger to overtime pressure in goal for the Titans earned the tie, as did James Smith between the pipes for the Waxers in his first tournament appearance.

Game 30: 11:15 am NOHA Wolves 1 (0-2-1) vs. Toronto Young Nationals 4 (4-0-0)
The top-ranked Toronto Young Nats wrapped up round-robin play with a perfect 4-0-0 record in Division 1 with a 4-1 win over the NOHA Wolves. The Nats win puts the Wolves outside of playoff contention. Tournament leading scorer Mathew Campagna recorded three assists as Player of the Game to finish the round-robin with 11 points. Teammate Jesse Graham had two assists in this game and was sitting second in tournament scoring with seven points at the time this game concluded. Defenceman Austin Russell scored his first tournament goal to kick-start the Nats 7:26 into the period. The Wolves would find their only goal shortly after when defenceman Kaden Ruest tallied from Jordan Delaurier at 11:41. CJ Shugart also contributed his first goal of the tournament for the Nats and it held as the game-winner on the power play with a heart-breaking two seconds to go in the frame. Bo Bessette got the win in goal for the Nats, with Jake Patterson in net for the Wolves.

Game 29: 10:45 am York Simcoe Express 8 (2-0-1) vs. Eastern Ontario Wild 2 (0-3-0)
The York Simcoe Express finished Day 3 the way they started - undefeated. They powered their way to a huge 8-2 win over the Eastern Ontario Wild who drop their tournament record to 0-3-0. The Express scored seven unanswered goals including four in the first period and three in the second period. Five different players produced multi-point games including Connor Crisp with two goals, Gabriel Greco with a goal and an assist, Brenden Miller with two assists, Matt LeMasurier with three assists, and Anthony Fata who picked up Player of the Game recognition with two goals and two assists. The Wild had goals from Justin Blanchard-Pellerin and Carl Faucher both on the power play. Donald Oldreive picked up the win in net for the Express.

Game 28: 9:30 am Thunder Bay Kings 5 (3-0-0) vs. Toronto Jr. Canadiens 2 (1-3-0)
The Thunder Bay Kings continued their winning ways rolling to a 5-2 win over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens for their third straight win of the tournament. The win dropped the Canadiens record to 1-3-0 putting them outside of playoff contention. The Kings trailed for the first time of the tournament when Cody Bradley scored at 4:19 of the first period to make it 1-0 for the Canadiens. The Kings scored four unanswered goals all of which came on the power play to pull ahead in the second period and finished the game with five different players finding the twine. Bryce Maggrah scored the game-winner with his power play goal at 6:46 of the second period and added an earlier assist as Player of the Game. "It feels great to get the win" Maggrah said after game. "They beat us earlier this year and we really wanted to get them back, we came a long way for this tournament and have been ready for this all year, we came here to win." Matthew Murray earned his second win of the tournament in goal for the Kings over Daniel Viger of the Canadiens.

Game 27: 9:00 am TPH Thunder 3 (2-1-0) vs. Ottawa Jr. 67's 1 (1-2-0)
The TPH Thunder improved their playoff chances with a 3-1 win to open Day 3 round-robin action over the Ottawa Jr. 67's. The Thunder continued to spread out their scoring and received point contributions from six different players. They had to play catch-up early on as the 67's got the first goal at 6:45 of the first period from Zack Leslie and assisted by Thomas Lafontaine. The Thunder stormed back with two goals in a span of 21 seconds with goals from Mark Petaccio at 11:27 and Ryan Badger at 11:45 of the first period. Mitchell Eisenberg extended the Thunder lead with a nice power play goal at 8:27 of the third when he beat the defender one-on-one and slid a backhand shot into the cage. The 67's had late chances with the goalie pulled with several scrambles in front of the crease but Thunder goalie Eamon McAdam stood his ground for the win. Gian Marco Demeis played goal for the 67's.
